What Kept Alan Growing
Location: Waipu, Taichung, Taiwan
Crops: Passion Fruit, Strawberries, and Melons

It Started with a Simple Idea
When Alan started 紫皇果園 in Waipu, Taichung, at the end of 2018, he wasn’t simply looking for a way to grow more passion fruit.
He wanted to grow it differently.
Using greenhouses and temperature control, Alan worked toward something that is difficult for any fruit grower: consistency. His goal was to keep passion fruit in production throughout the year while maintaining the flavor and quality he wanted.
But the bigger picture was even simpler. He only want to work with the land rather than push it harder than necessary.
Alan’s growing practice leaned toward organic and environmentally friendly from the day he started . For him, caring for the soil and growing good fruit were never separate goals. They were part of the same way of farming.
“I've always believed that if the soil is healthy and the roots are strong, the trees will naturally give you sweeter fruit.”
That belief would eventually become the common ground between Alan and Rolling Greens.

Then RichFarm Booster Became Part of the Land
Alan began using RichFarm Booster in 2023.
It wasn’t a complete change in the way he farmed. In many ways, it was the opposite. The product fit into an approach he had already spent years building—one centered on the soil, the root zone, and creating a more stable growing environment.
Over time, Alan observed more consistent crop growth and fewer abnormal conditions in the field. He also reported improvements in the quality and sweetness of his passion fruit.
What mattered to him was not simply adding another input to the farm. It was whether that input could become part of the way he was already working.
That experience gave him enough confidence to begin using RichFarm Booster with other crops as well. Strawberries and melons were gradually added to the land, giving Alan a more diverse production cycle instead of relying on passion fruit alone.
For a while, things were moving in the right direction.
Then came 2024.

The Year He Almost Walked Away
A series of typhoons and difficult weather hit Taiwanhard.
Crops were badly damaged. Months of work could disappear after a single storm, and the repeated setbacks began to take their toll.
At one point, Alan seriously considered giving up on his land.
For someone who had spent years building a growing system around patience and consistency, there was little he could do about the weather itself.
Rolling Greens stayed involved during that period, providing product support and technical assistance while Alan worked through the damage and tried to bring the land back to life.
Recovery did not happen overnight.
It came gradually, as the crops began to regain their strength and the land started to look like itself again.
Alan remembers that period clearly:
“There was a point when I really didn’t know how much longer I could keep going. But when I saw the plants starting to come back, I knew I couldn’t give up.”
That moment changed the meaning of the orchard.
What had started as a pursuit of better fruit had become a lesson in staying with something even when the season did not go according to plan.

The Melons Everyone Remembered
Later that year, the Rolling Greens team ordered melons from Alan’s farm as Lantern Festival gifts.
They were fragrant, sweet, and well received.
But within the team, people started calling them something else:
“The melons with a story.”
The name stuck because everyone knew what had come before them.
Those melons were not memorable simply because they tasted good. They had come out of a season of storms, damaged crops, uncertainty, and a grower who had nearly decided to stop.
By the time they reached the table, they carried a little of that history with them.
For Alan, It Still Comes Back to the Basics
Alan describes his approach to farming in a few words:
“Keep it simple, and find good flavor in nature.”
There is nothing particularly complicated about the idea.
Take care of the soil. Pay attention to the crop. Create the best growing environment you can. And when nature changes the plan—as it inevitably does—learn how to adjust without losing sight of what
you were trying to grow in the first place.
That is also where Alan’s relationship with Rolling Greens makes the most sense.
RichFarm Booster is part of the story, but it is not the whole story.
The knowledge of the grower, the condition of the land, the weather, the decisions made throughout the season, and the willingness to keep going all matter.
At 紫皇果園, that relationship has grown from passion fruit to strawberries and melons—and through some seasons that were much harder than others.
Still Growing
Today, Alan continues to grow fruit with the same idea that started the orchard: good flavor begins long before harvest.
It begins below the surface, in the way the land is cared for and in the decisions made season after season.
Some years bring beautiful fruit.
Some bring storms.
And sometimes, the fruit that means the most is the fruit that almost never made it to harvest.
